The Zamioculcas Zamiifolia, more commonly known as the “Zanzibar Gem” or “ZZ Plant”, is the perfect choice for beginners and the sometimes-forgetful plant owners. It is characterized by its thick, shiny, oval-shaped, lush green leaves that taper to a point giving it a feather-like appearance and is popular for its whimsical form juxtaposed with its striking, shiny, deep green leaves that grow upwards on long stalks. Native to Eastern Africa, the ZZ Plant is a tough, drought and low-light tolerant plant that can survive for months without water and is able to handle long periods of neglect. Due to its hardy nature, water sparingly as it can easily be overwatered, and keep out of direct sunlight to avoid scorching their leaves. Add some green and liveliness into any space of your home or office with this nearly indestructible, yet stunning addition. Thrives best in low to moderate light and conditions.

Water once every 3-4 weeks and allow soil to dry out completely between watering. Place in medium to bright indirect or filtered light and maintain a temperature between 60-90F. ZZ plants are happy without fertilizer, but if you would like, you can give the plants half strength fertilizer one to two times a year and only in the summer months.

Hailing from southern Mexico, El Savador, Guatemala and Honduras, the rare Tillandsia Xerographica, otherwise known as an Air Plant, is a beautiful bromeliad flowering succulent with light, silver-green coloring and curled, elegant leaves. As it absorbs moisture through its leaves, this plant does not require soil but may be misted or dunked in water every week for about 20-60 minutes. Place in indirect sunlight.

The Sansevieria Laurentii, more commonly known as “Variegated Snake Plant” or "Mother in Law Tongue," is an evergreen perennial plant native to Southeast Asia, particularly to Sri Lanka and India. Characterized by the horizontal, creamy, wave-like stripes that are dappled across the surface of its long, stiff, upright, and sword-like succulent leaves, the “Snake Plant” is a favorable choice for modern and contemporary interior designs. It is a hardy and low maintenance plant that remains very popular because of its adaptability to a wide range of growing conditions. Areas with medium to bright light is best, and although it can survive in low light locations, it will grow much slower and the leaves will become a darker green in color. Some notable benefits of the “Snake Plant” are that they have the ability to purify the air of volatile organic pollutants such as benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, and toluene, and while other plants release carbon dioxide at night, the “Snake Plant” continues to produce oxygen, making it an excellent plant to place in the bedroom.

The Epipremnum aureum, more commonly known as “Golden Pothos”, “Devil’s Ivy”, or “Cascading Pothos”, has the reputation of being one of the easiest and most forgiving houseplants to take care of making it the perfect choice for the beginner plant enthusiasts. This tropical aroid vine with smooth and leathery heart-shaped leaves are native to Southeast Asia, and can tolerate low light conditions and periods of drought. Give your pothos a drink when the leaves start to droop or wilt, but be sure not to allow roots to get soggy as that can lead to root rot. Although tolerant of all indirect light levels ranging from low to bright, the pothos will be fullest, most colorful, and grow fastest in medium to bright light. In addition to the greenery the “Devil’s Ivy” brings to your home, results from a clean air study performed by NASA show that it also has the ability to remove volatile organic pollutants such as benzene, formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene.
