The Senecio jacobsenii or "Trailing Jade", often confused with jade plants (Crassula Jades), is a creeping succulent plant with thick stems and egg-shaped leaves arranged in an overlapping pattern. Native to Kenya and Tanzania, the "Trailing Jade" is named after tis resemblance to the jade plant and its growth habit. When grown in a hanging basket, this plant can form a long and dense cascade of up to four feet long. As with most succulents, they are low maintenance plants that require very little to no attention, are easy to grow, and are capable of adapting to any type of environment making it ideal for any home, office, or garden. Just be sure to avoid overwatering to prevent root rot, and keep out of direct sunlight. Another reason for the popularity of succulents is their ability to help improve the air quality. They help to increase oxygen levels and humidity and reduce carbon dioxide, levels of air pollutants, and airborne dust levels, all of which help us breathe better. There is no end in the number of creative ways to fill your space with these stunning succulents.

The Sansevieria Laurentii, more commonly known as “Snake Plant” is an evergreen perennial plant native to Southeast Asia, particularly to Sri Lanka and India. Characterized by the tall, yellow stripes that line its bright green leaves and creamy, wave-like stripes that dapple across the surface of its stiff, upright, and sword-like succulent leaves, the “Snake Plant” is a favorable choice for modern and contemporary interior designs. It is a hardy and low maintenance plant that remains very popular because of its adaptability to a wide range of growing conditions. Areas with medium to bright light is best, and although it can survive in low light locations, it will grow much slower and the leaves will become a darker green in color. Some notable benefits of the “Snake Plant” are that they have the ability to purify the air of volatile organic pollutants such as benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, and toluene, and while other plants release carbon dioxide at night, the “Snake Plant” continues to produce oxygen, making it an excellent plant to place in the bedroom.

Water once every 3-4 weeks and allow the soil to dry out completely between watering. Place in low to bright indirect or filtered light and maintain a temperature between 60-90F. Fertilize during the growing season with an all-purpose plant food.

The Hedera helix, more commonly known as “Common Ivy” or “English Ivy”, is an evergreen climbing plant native to Europe and Western Asia. Often grown outdoors as an ornamental ground-cover, the “English Ivy” is a very versatile plant that can be grown indoors as well. Preferred to be kept slightly on the drier side, the top of the soil should be dry to the touch before watering. Overwatering will cause leaves to turn brown and become dry on the edges, but underwatering also poses problems causing the plant to become stressed, which in turn can make it more susceptible to disease or insect infestations. Ivies can tolerate low to bright indirect light, but lower light levels will slow growth, and the variegated leaves will become less pronounced becoming more uniformly green. Thriving best in cooler temperatures, placing the “English Ivy” in a cool location with air movement is ideal. Results from a clean air study performed by NASA show that the “English Ivy” has the ability to remove volatile organic pollutants such as benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, xylene, and toluene. Keep the air in your home clean by adding this wonderful trailing plant to your collection.

Water 1-2 times every week and allow the top inch of soil to dry out between watering. Place in indirect or filtered light and maintain a temperature between 55-75F. Apply an all-purpose liquid fertilizer at half strength once a month during the growing season.

    • WATER: Once every 1-2 weeks or when leaves start to wilt; Allow soil to dry out between watering
    • LIGHT & TEMP: Low to bright indirect or filtered light. Maintain between 65-75F
    • NUTRIENTS: Apply an all-purpose liquid fertilizer twice a year or more to encourage growth

The Epipremnum aureum, more commonly known as “Golden Pothos”, “Devil’s Ivy”, or “Cascading Pothos”, has the reputation of being one of the easiest and most forgiving houseplants to take care of making it the perfect choice for the beginner plant enthusiasts. This tropical aroid vine with smooth and leathery heart-shaped leaves are native to Southeast Asia, and can tolerate low light conditions and periods of drought.

Give your pothos a drink when the leaves start to droop or wilt, but be sure not to allow roots to get soggy as that can lead to root rot. Although tolerant of all indirect light levels ranging from low to bright, the pothos will be fullest, most colorful, and grow fastest in medium to bright light.

In addition to the greenery the “Devil’s Ivy” brings to your home, results from a clean air study performed by NASA show that it also has the ability to remove volatile organic pollutants such as benzene, formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene. Place on a high shelf or ledge to showcase the beautiful cascading vines that will trail and spill over, growing to 10 feet long over time.'

    Pothos

    • WATERING NEEDS | Pothos like to have their soil dry out completely between waterings. If left continually in damp soil, the roots will rot.
    • FERTILIZING NEEDS | Pothos aren’t heavy feeders, but since there are no nutrients in most potting soils, feed monthly to bi-monthly with any balanced houseplant fertilizer.
    • SOIL | SUN | POTTING | Outdoors shade to partial shade. Indoors bright but indirect light. Will lose leaf pattern and revert to all-green plants if they don't get enough light.

    Jade Succulent

    • WATERING NEEDS | Succulents are very sensitive to overwatering, and damp soil can cause root rot. Dry out soil completely between waterings. Recommended amount is once every two weeks. Tip: the top inch of soil should feel dry before watering again.
    • FERTILIZING NEEDS | Fertilize every two to four weeks during spring and summer. Withhold fertilizer during the fall and winter months.
    • SOIL | SUN | POTTING | Use well-draining soil. Regular potting soil or dirt won't do. Use cactus soil/mix potting soil with sand/pumice/perlite. Approximately 6 hours of sun per day. Gradually give plant more sunlight each day.

    Janet Craig Compacta

    • WATERING NEEDS | Allow the top 50% of the soil to dry out between waterings. The lower the light, the less often a dracaena needs water. Fluoride, chlorine, or salt in the water may cause brown leaf tips and yellow spots on the leaves.
    • FERTILIZING NEEDS | Janet Craig plants need very little plant food. Feed once or twice a year in the spring and summer with a balanced houseplant food diluted to 1/2 the recommended strength. Too much fertilizer causes leaf tip burn.
    • SUN | SOIL | POTTING | Low light causes slow growth and narrow, small new leaves. Medium light causes faster growth. Keep away from direct sunlight in outdoor settings as a few minutes may burn the leaves.

    Calathea Orbifolia

    • WATERING NEEDS | The Calathea Orbifolia likes to be watered fairly often. About 1-2 times per week. Allow for the top 2" of soil to dry in between waterings.
    • FERTILIZING NEEDS | A balanced fertilizer given to the plant monthly at 1/4 to 1/2 during the grow season will help this plant thrive.
    • SUN | SOIL | POTTING | Well-draining soil that does not get dry or soggy will help this plant to properly grow. This plant also enjoys medium light and high humidity and prefers temperatures between 65-75 degrees fahrenheit.

Bonnie Spider Plant in Ceramic Pumpkin Shaped Planter

With long, slender curling leaves, the Chlorophytum comosum 'bonnie' or "Bonnie Curly Spider Plant" is one of the most popular, adaptable, and easiest to grow of all hanging houseplants. Native to South Africa, spider plants are very hardy and will survive in less than perfect conditions. Although spider plants prefer bright light, they tend to scorch in direct sunlight, and can also tolerate low-light conditions. Mature spider plants produce 'spiderettes' or plantlets that can be cut off to propagate, providing a never ending supply of spider plants. Adding to the list of reasons to add these nearly impossible to kill plants, results from a clean air study performed by NASA show that spider plants have tremendous air purifying qualities and can remove volatile organic pollutants such as formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene. Keep the air in your home clean by adding this fast-growing, healthy addition to your collection.

Water 1-2 times every week, or whenever the soil dries out. Place in medium to bright indirect light and maintain between 60-80F. Apply a balanced houseplant fertilizer at half strength once or twice during the growing season for best results.

    • DIFFICULTY: Low maintenance, perfect for beginners
    • WATER: 1-2 times every week; Allow top inch of soil to dry out between watering
    • LIGHT & TEMP: Bright indirect or filtered light. Maintain between 60-80F
    • NUTRIENTS: Apply an all-purpose liquid fertilizer at half strength monthly during the growing season

The Chlorophytum comosum 'bonnie' or "Bonnie Curly Spider Plant" is one of the most popular, adaptable, and easiest to grow of all hanging houseplants. Native to South Africa, spider plants are very hardy and will survive in less than perfect conditions. Although spider plants prefer bright light, they tend to scorch in direct sunlight, and can also tolerate low-light conditions. Mature spider plants produce 'spiderettes' or plantlets that can be cut off to propagate, providing a neverending supply of spider plants. Adding to the list of reasons to add these nearly impossible to kill plants, results from a clean air study performed by NASA show that spider plants have tremendous air purifying qualities, and have the ability to remove volatile organic pollutants such as formaldehyde, xylene, and toluene. Keep the air in your home clean by adding this fast-growing, healthy addition to your collection.
